This dark, moody 9.6ct stone with flashes of deep blue and green is beautifully set in a sterling silver, claw pendant.
Why is it a workshop second?
Occasionally something doesn't quite go according to plan when handcrafting our opal jewellery. For this lovely piece, the resin coating is not quite perfect, although it's not easy to see any fault unless you are having a really good look. It can still be worn with pride and confidence!
Andamooka Matrix is a special type of Opal from Andamooka in far north South Australia.
The natural Andamooka Matrix host rock hides its Opal secrets in its pale, often white, natural state. But once the rock is cooked and treated it turns black and frees the vibrant, sparkling Opal to shine in its own right.
The Andamooka Matrix host is more easily chipped or damaged, so the treated piece has a been given protective resin coating.
A final polish and this stunning, colourful Opal is ready to set.
*Necklace not included.
Important Note: As a level of treatment has occurred, these pieces are often less expensive than their untreated relatives. But they are still just as stunningly beautiful.
